Faster's past highlights with ATM
Past work with ATM networks includes implementations of various
protocols for the Linux operating system.
ATM LAN Emulation (LANE) was implemented in 1996 by MSc Marko
Kiiskilš as a part of his MSc thesis. The implementation includes
both the LANE server and client and is currently distributed as a
part of the ATM on
Linux distribution. Marko's MSc thesis describes the
implementation and is available both in PDF and A4-sized gzip
compressed PostScript formats.
Multi-Protocol Over ATM (MPOA) was implemented during 1998 and
1999 by Sampo Saaristo and Heikki Vatiainen. The MPOA
implementation includes only the client part and is also
distributed in the ATM
on Linux distribution. The MPOA client implementation and
performance and interoperability test results are described in
Heikki's MSc thesis which is also available for both downloading
and online viewing.
For a short introduction to MPOA and our experiences from testing
various clients, please see a paper describing the
performance. The paper compares the performance of MPOA when
compared to router based packet forwarding.
